Job Description

In the role of Substation Engineer, you'll step into a leadership or supporting position across a range of utility and power substation engagements. You should bring hands-on experience with substation projects spanning 34.5kV to 500kV, along with a proven ability to foster strong working relationships with clients and stakeholders across the Power & Utility sector.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Produce substation layout documentation — including plan and elevation drawings, yard layouts, grounding systems and details, raceway designs, control building arrangements, cable lists, and material takeoffs — for both new builds and existing facilities.
  • Create and maintain substation electrical documentation such as one-lines, three-lines, Auxiliary AC and DC Power Systems, DC Schematics, SCADA and Communications diagrams, Relay Panel Layouts, Equipment Wiring diagrams, and Cable Schedules.
  • Develop engineering calculations and compile reports to present findings clearly to clients.
  • Draft detailed equipment specifications covering substation hardware, components, and construction requirements.
  • Own the technical, financial, and scheduling delivery of substation projects from start to finish.
  • Step into project manager, client manager, or proposal/capture manager roles as needed.
  • Cultivate the skills, resources, and expertise required to deliver strategic services, partnerships, and projects effectively.
  • Partner with internal teams to pursue substation opportunities on both a regional and national scale, growing the firm's footprint in the power delivery market.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews to uphold quality standards.
  • Guide and mentor a team of engineers and technical specialists while building lasting client relationships and collaborating across disciplines and office locations.
  • Play an active role in developing proposals, bids, reports, and client presentations.

What You'll Bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum).
  • A Professional Engineer license, or active progress toward licensure.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in design, engineering, and project management within the power and utility industry.
  • Familiarity with or direct experience in consulting engineering environments.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as Microsoft Project or equivalent platforms for managing scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Hands-on design experience with high voltage substations and distribution systems.
  • A track record of delivering high-quality technical solutions on major power delivery projects.
  • A drive for strong business performance, continuous improvement, and best-in-class practices.
